The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the Royal Easter Show on Good Friday, 18 April. Their first stop was the Dome Pavilion at Sydney Showground, where they were met by the President of the Royal Agricultural Society, Mr Glen Dudley, and his wife Jennifer.

More people waited outside the Southee and Badgery Pavilion, including this man. This was not quite what this royal correspondent expected to see whilst trying to catch a glimpse of the Royal Couple heading towards the Sheep and Wool Pavilion.

Time to try some of those famous scones in the CWA Tea Rooms after all the royal watching! I’m told it is a “must-do” at the Royal Easter Show.

Queen Elizabeth’s Real Birthday

The Queen was born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary on 21 April 1926 at her maternal grandparents’ London home at 17 Bruton Street. She was the eldest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York (later George VI and Queen Elizabeth), and third in line to the British throne. At the time, Princess Elizabeth was not expected to become Queen as her uncle, Edward VIII, was expected to marry and produce the heir to the throne.

However, Edward VIII married American divorcee Wallis Simpson and abdicated in favour of the Queen’s father, George VI.

Renowned British Photographer David Bailey CBE took this portrait of Queen Elizabeth II to celebrate Her Majesty’s 88th birthday on Monday, 21 April 2014.
