HM Queen Margrethe II gave her New Year’s Address on 31 December, at 6.00 pm (local time) from Fredensborg Palace, which was broadcasted on television and radio.

The New Year’s Address is usually delivered from The Queen’s reception room in Christian IX’s Palace at Amalienborg.

Amalienborg Palace is undergoing renovations this year. Queen Margrethe last delivered her New Year Address at Fredensborg Palace in 1979 and 1980.

In 2010, Danmarks Radio broadcasted the Queen’s New Year’s Address worldwide to Danes living overseas.

King Christian X gave the first radio broadcast of the New Year’s Address on 1 January 1941, and King Frederik IX’s speech was first televised in 1958.
