Battle of Agincourt

Britain commemorated the 600th Anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt which was fought on St Crispin’s Day on 25 October 1415.

The Duke of Kent and Princess Michael of Kent attended a service at Westminster Abbey on Thursday, 29 October 2015, to commemorate this milestone event in British history.

Royal Birthday

Princess Tessy of Luxembourg (pictured below, in May) celebrated her 30th birthday this week. She was born Tessy Antony in Luxembourg on 28 October 1985.

George II of Great Britain was born on 30 October 1683 (Old Style) in Hanover. He was the son of George Louis, Hereditary Prince of Brunswick-Lüneburg (later George I of Great Britain) and his wife, Sophia Dorothea of Celle.

George II was the last British monarch born outside Great Britain and he spent most of his childhood in Germany. He learnt to speak French, German, English and Italian.

However, he shared his birthday with his aunt, Sophia Charlotte of Hanover, who later became the Queen consort of King Frederick I of Prussia. Sophia was born in 1668 in Iburg Castle in Osnabrück.

Henry Tudor was crowned King Henry VII of England in Westminster Abbey on 30 October 1485. However, his Queen, Elizabeth of York’s coronation wasn’t held until 25 November 1487.
