History

The New Year’s Address is usually delivered from The Queen’s reception room in Christian IX’s Palace at Amalienborg.

However, Amalienborg Palace is still undergoing renovations again this year, so Queen Margrethe will be delivering her New Year’s Address this year at Fredensborg Palace.

Queen Margrethe has previously given her Address at Fredensborg in 1979, 1980 and 2014 since she acceded the throne in 1972.

King Christian X gave the first radio broadcast of the New Year’s Address on 1 January 1941, and King Frederik IX’s speech was first televised in 1958.
