Members of the Swedish Royal Family joined relatives, friends and government officials for Prince Alexander’s christening in Drottningholm Palace Chapel on Friday, 9 September 2016 at 12 noon.
Prime Minister Stefan Löfven and his wife Ulla, Prince Leopold and Princess Ursula of Bavaria, the Norwegian and Denmark ambassadors and members of the royal court were also among the guests.
The little prince sat contentedly on his mother’s lap, with his cousin Prince Oscar beside him during the service.
Proud parents Prince Carl Philip, who is fourth in line to the Swedish throne, and Princess Sofia watched as Archbishop Ante Jackelén baptised their little son who was christened Alexander Erik Hubertus Bertil with spring water from Öland.
The event was broadcasted live by Sveriges Television (STV), capturing some gorgeous moments with Prince Alexander and Prince Oscar — even holding hands — during the service as their mothers sat next to each other.
Guests also witnessed the antics of the little princesses, Estelle and Leonore, and Prince Nicolas sitting nearby with their parents, Prince Daniel, Princess Madeleine and Christopher O’Neill.
Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia chose Crown Princess Victoria, Victor Magnuson, Cajsa Larsson, Lina Frejd and Jan-Åke Hansson to be the little prince’s godparents.
Bishop Johan Dalman, the Chaplain to the King, and the Reverend Michael Bjerkhagen, Court Chaplain and Rector of the of the Royal Court Paris assisted the Archbishop during the service.
King Carl XVI Gustaf conferred the Order of the Seraphim on his youngest grandson towards the end of the service, but Prince Alexander didn’t want to let go of his grandfather’s finger!
A 21-gun salute was fired from Skeppsholmen and from HMS Kullen outside Drottningholm Palace.
A reception with lunch for the invited guests was held following the service where Prince Alexander slept in Karl XV’s cradle after the christening.
Prince Alexander was born on 19 April 2016 at Danderyds Hospital in Stockholm, at 6.25 pm, weighing in at 3595 grams (7 pounds 9 ounces) and 49 cm (19.3 inches) in length.
