The Queen said goodbye to her best friend and beloved cousin Margaret Rhodes at her funeral on Sunday, 11 December 2016, at Windsor.

Prince Philip and other members of the royal family, including the Duke of York, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, joined mourners at the service at the Royal Chapel of All Saints in Windsor Great Park.

Margaret Rhodes, who died, aged 91, on 25 November after a short illness, was also one of the Queen’s eight bridesmaids at her wedding to Prince Philip in 1947.

Margaret Rhodes was best remembered for her “adventurous spirit”.

However, the Queen received further sad news this week as another bridesmaid, Lady Elizabeth Longman, who passed away on Thursday, 8 December, aged 92, also from a short illness.

Only two out of the Queen’s eight bridesmaids are still alive: Lady Pamela Hicks, whose daughter India who was a bridesmaid at Prince Charles wedding to Lady Diana Spencer in 1981, and HRH Princess Alexandra of Kent, who was the youngest, aged 10.
