Queen Elizabeth has invited the new US President Donald Trump and the First Lady to Britain for a state visit later this year.
British Prime Minister Theresa May made the announcement during a media conference on Friday, 27 January 2017.
“I have today been able to convey her Majesty, the Queen’s hope that President Trump and the First Lady would pay a state visit to the United Kingdom later this year, and I’m delighted that the President has accepted that invitation.”
The visit is aimed to renew the bond between the UK and the United States, especially military, financial, cultural and political. Strengthen ties between the two countries who are “a beacon of prosperity and the rule of law. That is why the United States respects the sovereignty of the British people and their right of self-determination.
“A free and independent Britain is a blessing to the world and our relationship has never been stronger. Both America and Britain understand that governments must be responsive to everyday working people, that governments must represent their own citizens,” said Mr Trump.

Mr Trump welcomed British Prime Minister Theresa May who is the first official visit from a foreign leader since he took office as the President.
Mrs May had accepted President Trump’s invitation so soon after his inauguration on 20 January.
Mr Trump also has family ties with the United Kingdom, as his mother was born in Scotland. He also told media that his mother was also a huge fan of the Queen.
Sir Winston Churchill’s Bust Returns To White House
President Trump has honoured a pledge to return the bust of former British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill back to the Oval Office, within hours of moving into the White House.
According to reports, former Prime Minister Tony Blair gave the Jacob Epstein sculpture to George W Bush in 2001.
However, the former President Barack Obama was said to have had the bust removed from the Oval Office in 2009, causing controversy, as it was handed back to the British Embassy in Washington.
President Trump took Mrs May to see the bust back in the Oval Office, saying it was a “great honour” to Sir Winston back in the heart of the White House.
Mrs May thanked Mr Trump as they posed for photographs standing near Sir Winston’s bust.
