The Swedish Royal Court has released a lovely new photo to mark Prince Oscar’s first birthday on 2 March 2017.

Crown Princess Victoria took the photo of the little prince, who is third in the line of succession to the Swedish throne.

Prince Oscar was born at Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, at 8.28 pm. A 21-gun salute was fired from Sekppsholmen, opposite the Royal Palace.

His grandfather, King Carl XVI Gustaf announced the little prince’s names as Oscar Carl Olof and his title, Duke of Skåne and a Te Deum service was held in the palace’s Royal Chapel the following day.

Prince Oscar was christened on 27 May amidst pomp and ceremony in the Royal Chapel at Stockholm’s Royal Palace. His godparents are Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, his aunt Princess Madeleine, his mother’s cousin Oscar Magnuson and his father’s cousin, Hans Åström.

His big sister, Princess Estelle, celebrated her 5th birthday on 23 February 2017.
