Celebrating name days is a Swedish tradition, with Victoria, or Viktoria, celebrated every year on 12 March whilst King Carl Gustaf, or Karl, celebrates his on 28 January.

Each calendar day in Sweden is linked to a name, with many belonging to saints or members of the Royal Family.

Earlier that day, the Royal Flower Foundation handed over a cheque for 346,560 Krona (approximately A$51,000) for the Crown Princess Victoria Foundation, which supports and encourages children and young people with disabilities and/or chronic diseases to be active in their leisure time.

Crown Princess Victoria’s husband Prince Daniel and their two children, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar, joined in the celebrations, as they were rugged up against the cold weather with woollen gloves and beanies.

Prince Daniel carried one-year-old Prince Oscar who clung onto his toy polar bear.

Princess Estelle joined her parents on the small stage as a member of the Swedish Armed Forces presented Crown Princess Victoria with a huge bouquet of flowers.

This year’s celebrations included performances from the Armed Forces Music Corp and singers Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson.

Crown Princess Victoria later greeted well-wishers, including those who brought flowers.

However, no name day celebrations took place in 2016 as the Crown Princess was recovering from the birth of her second child, Prince Oscar, who was born on 2 March.
