Australia Post has released two new stamps to commemorate the Queen’s Birthday in 2017.

The Queen was born on 21 April 1926, the eldest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York, who later reigned as King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. She was christened Elizabeth Alexandra Mary.

The Queen’s Birthday is officially celebrated every year in June, except in Queensland and Western Australia, when it celebrated in late September or early October.

An annual ceremony is held at the Royal Military College at Duntroon to honour the Queen.

This year the Queen and Prince Philip will be celebrating their 70th Wedding Anniversary later this year.

Princess Elizabeth married Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, at Westminster Abbey on 20 November 1947.

The $1 stamp features a photograph of the Queen during a visit to the Broadway Theatre, which was part of an official engagement to the London borough of Barking and Dagenham.

The $2.95, or the International rate stamp, features a photograph of the Queen and Prince Philip, which was taken whilst travelling in the Procession at Royal Ascot.

The Queen also celebrated her Sapphire Jubilee or the 65th Anniversary of her reign on 6 February 2017. She is the first British monarch to ever reach this milestone.

Australia Post will be releasing a prestige stamp and coin cover to commemorate this event, with the one-dollar stamp and a coin from the UK’s Royal Mint.

The Queen’s Birthday stamps and associated products are available from Tuesday, 4 April, at participating post offices, via mail order in Australia on 1800 331 794 and online at auspost.com.au/stamps.
