Princess Sofia of Sweden has given birth to her second son on Thursday, 31 August 2017, at 11.24 am at Danderyd Hospital in Stockholm.

Prince Carl Philip was present throughout the birth.

The Marshall of the Realm’s office reported both mother and baby are in good health.

Proud father Prince Carl Philip gave a media conference outsides the hospital, and said the little fellow weighed in at 3.400 kg (about 7 lb 7 oz) and 49 cm (just over 19 inches) in length.

A 21-gun salute will be fired at 6.00 pm local time at Skeppsholmen, Boden, Härnösand, Karlskrona and Gothenburg, to celebrate the Royal Family’s latest arrival.

King Carl XVI Gustaf will announce the baby’s name and title at the Council of State at 11.15 am at the Royal Palace, on Monday, 4 September, followed by a Te Deum Thanksgiving service in the Royal Chapel, as 12.15 pm.

The royal couple has a son, Prince Alexander, Duke of Södermanland, who was born on 19 April 2016.

The little prince’s name and title will be announced in due course when King Carl XVI Gustaf meets with his council.

Earlier this week, the Swedish Royal Court announced that Princess Madeleine and Christopher O’Neill were expecting their third child due in March 2018.
