Kensington Palace has announced after 11.00 am (8.00 pm AEST) that the royal baby now has a name three days after he was born.

The little prince was born on Monday, 23 April 2018, at 11.01 am, weighing 8lb 7oz (3.8272 kg).

The Duke and Duchess took their baby son home to Kensington Palace hours after the birth.

Outgoing Australian High Commissioner had suggested calling the baby ‘Alexander’ whilst New Zealand’s High Commissioner, Sir Jerry Mataparae, had opted for ‘Jerry’.

Further speculation arose the baby would be named ‘Albert’ after clicking on the official Royal Family’s website and receiving a message, ‘Access Denied’, like some had with Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

The Royal Family’s official website giving the wrong clue?

However, Joe Little from Majesty magazine was not convinced.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce they have named their son Louis Arthur Charles.

The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge and is currently fifth in the line of succession, bumping Prince Harry down to the sixth spot.

Under the new laws of succession, Princess Charlotte does not lose her place to a younger brother.
