The heir-presumptive to the Spanish throne becomes a teenager on Wednesday, 31 October 2018.

Princess Leonor, the eldest daughter of Spain’s King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, was born in 2005 at the Ruber International Hospital in Madrid, at 1:47 am.

Her grandparents King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia were chosen as godparents at her Christening on 14 January 2006.

Princess Leonor began her primary school years at her father’s old school Santa María de los Rosales School in Aravac, near the Zarzuela Palace.

Princess Leonor became the heir when her father was proclaimed King on 19 June 2014, and holds the title of Princess of Asturias as the monarch’s firstborn.

The Spanish Royal Court released photos of King Felipe and Queen Letizia doing the school run earlier this year, to mark the monarch’s 50th birthday in January.

King Felipe bestowed the Order of the Golden Fleece (Orden del Toisón de Oro), one of Spain’s most prestigious orders, upon his eldest daughter on 30 January 2018, as part of the celebrations.

Leonor and her sister Sofía attended a summer camp in the United States in July 2018, where they met fellow campers from around the world.

The princess is expected to become Spain’s next Queen Regnant since Isabella II, who reigned from 1833 to 1868.

Princess Leonor shares her birthday with King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden’s oldest sister, Princess Margaretha Mrs Ambler.
