Queen Elizabeth received the new British Prime Minister Boris Johnson during an audience at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, 24 July 2019.

The Queen requested Mr Johnson form a new Administration.

Mr Johnson accepted the Queen’s officer and kissed her hands upon his appointment as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.

Boris Johnson has been the Member for Uxbridge in South Ruislip since 2015 and served as Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018.

He was elected as the Lord Mayor of London in 2008 for two terms until his resignation in 2016.

Boris Johnson was elected as the new leader of the Conservative party on Tuesday, 23 July, winning 92,153 votes against his opponent Jeremy Hunt with only 46,656.

He also wrote a biography of Winston Churchill, The Churchill Factor, which was published in 2014.

Earlier that day, Queen Elizabeth had an audience with Theresa May who tendered her resignation as British Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.

The Queen was said to ‘graciously pleased to accept.’
