The Royal Court of Sweden issued a statement on Monday, 7 October 2019 regarding which members will continue carrying out official duties in the future.

King Carl XVI Gustaf has decided Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia’s two sons, as well as Princess Madeleine and Mr Christopher O’Neill’s three children, will no longer be members of the Royal House.

Prince Alexander, Prince Gabriel, Princess Leonore, Prince Nicolas and Princess Adrienne will continue to be members of The Royal Family but they will no longer be styled ‘Royal Highness’ and no longer be expected to carry out official duties on King Carl Gustaf’s behalf.

However, all five royal children will retain their titles as Duke and Duchesses.

  • Prince Gabriel Duke of Dalarna
  • Princess Leonore Duchess of Gotland
  • Prince Nicolas Duke of Ångermanland
  • Princess Adrienne Duchess of Blekinge

King Carl Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel, along with their two children, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar, will continue to carry out official duties on behalf of the Royal House both in Sweden and abroad.

Meanwhile, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia will, as well as Princess Madeleine, continue working in charities, including those and organisations which they founded.

They will carry out official duties at the King’s discretion.
