Queen Elizabeth II, according to the statement, ‘has kindly given permission’ for the ceremony to be held in The Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace, London.

Following the ceremony, a private reception, hosted by The Queen, will be held in the gardens of Buckingham Palace.

The couple became engaged in Italy in September 2019 during a romantic weekend away.

The Chapel Royal

The Chapel Royal was built during Henry VIII’s reign, around 1540 in St James’s Palace, near the front entrance.

It has been in use since 1702 and is still a working chapel today.

Many royal weddings have taken place including Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha on 10 February 1840.

Their eldest daughter, Victoria Princess Royal, married Prince Friedrich Wilhelm of Prussia (Friedrich III of Germany) in 1858.

The Duke of York and Princess Victoria Mary of Teck (later King George V and Queen Marry) married in the Chapel in 1893.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s two sons, Prince George and Prince Louis, were christened at the Chapel Royal on 23 October 2013 and 9 July 2019.

Four generations of the Royal Family present, including Queen Elizabeth and the Prince of Wales, were present at Prince George’s christening.

The Chapel Royal holds regular services which are open to the general public as well as ‘some unique Royal services’.
