The Royal Court of Sweden has released three new photos to mark King Carl XVI Gustaf’s 74th Birthday on Thursday, 30 April 2020.

Photographers Jonas Ekströmer from TT and Pelle T Nilsson at SPA took the photo of the Royal Couple at Stenhammar Palace in Södermanland the day before, on Wednesday, 29 April.

These photos were posted on the Swedish Royal Court’s official social media accounts.

King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia have been in home isolation at Stenhammar Palace since the coronavirus outbreak and will celebrate privately this year.

The three-tailed Royal Standard (Kungliga flaggan) was raised outside Stenhammar Palace as the King’s Birthday is an official ‘flag day’ in Sweden.

Armed Forces Celebrations Cancelled

The Armed Forces’ traditional celebration of the King’s Birthday in the Royal Palace’s outer courtyard has also been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the Commander, Admiral Jan Thörnqvist, sent a digital greeting from the Swedish Armed Forces, including a guard of honour from the King’s Life Guards and the Army’s band performed the traditional music, KungssĂĄngen followed by Marcia Carolus Rex, which is always played on the King’s birthday.
