Proud mother Princess Madeleine has shared a new photo of her son, Prince Nicolas, to celebrate his 5th Birthday on 15 June 2020.

A message, ‘Happy Birthday to the most kindhearted brother and sweetest son! We love YOU!!’, was published with the photo which was posted on Princess Madeleine’s Instagram account.

Prince Nicolas Paul Gustaf was born at the Danderyd Hospital in Stockholm on 15 June 2015, followed by a 21-gun salute from Skeppsholmen in Stockholm and also at military posts in Gothenburg, Härnösand, Karlskrona and Boden.

Two days later, on 17 June, his grandfather King Carl XVI Gustaf announced his name and his title as Duke of Ångermanland.

According to the 1979 Act of Succession, which came into effect from 1 January 1980, Prince Nicolas is currently ninth in the line of succession, following his aunt Crown Princess Victoria, her two children, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar, uncle Prince Carl Philip, cousins Prince Alexander and Prince Gabriel, his mother Princess Madeleine and older sister Princess Leonore.

The Archbishop of Uppsala, Antje Jackelén, christened Prince Nicolas in the Royal Chapel at Drottningholm Palace on 11 October 2015, with Prince Carl Philip chosen as one of his godparents.

Prince Nicolas has a younger sister, Princess Adrienne who was born on 9 March 2018.

However, King Carl Gustaf decreed in October 2019 that Princess Madeleine’s three children will no longer be members of the Royal House and no longer carry out official duties.

They will be no longer styled HRH but they will keep their titles as Duke and Duchesses.
