Prince Louis of Luxembourg celebrates his 34th birthday on Monday, 3 August 2020.

He is Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa’s third son, born in 1986, in the Grand Duchess Charlotte Maternity Hospital in Luxembourg.

Prince Louis received the Knight of the Order of the Gold Lion of the House of Nassau in 2004.

He speaks fluent Luxembourgish, French, English and German. Prince Louis has an extensive knowledge of Spanish.

Prince Louis regularly returns to Luxembourg, when his schedule allows, to participate in the Grand Ducal Family’s official events.

Education and Humanitarian Work

He attended the Ecole de Lorentzweiler during his primary school years and spent his high school years at the Collège Beau Soleil in Switzerland, where he discovered a strong interest in social and humanitarian work.

Through his high school, Prince Louis participated in missions to India teaching English to children in poor neighbourhoods and on the streets.

Prince Louis graduated from high school in 2005, followed by a one-year internship with the Red Cross in Geneva to help disadvantaged children.

Further studies included Aeronautics and Aeronautical Management and earned a private pilots certificate, before graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications at Richmond, the American University University, in London in 2014.

Prince Louis also obtained a master in Psychological studies at Birkbeck University in London.

Family

Prince Louis began a relationship with Tessy Anthony whist, in the Luxembourg Army as it participated in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Kosovo.

Tessy gave birth to their son, Gabriel, on 12 March 2006, at Clinic des Grangettes in Geneva.

Prince Louis married Tessy on 29 September 2006 in Gisdorf, in what was originally a morganatic marriage. He gave up his succession rights and those of their children, even though he retained his HRH and title, Prince of Luxembourg’ bu his wife and son were given the surname de Nassau.

Their second son, Noah, was born on 21 September 2007 in the Grand Duchess Charlotte Maternity Hospital.

On Luxembourg’s National Day on 23 Jun 2009, Tessy was granted the title of Princess of Luxembourg and the style, Her Royal Highness.

Their sons (and future children) were also given the style ‘Royal Highness’ and title, Prince of Nassau.

The Grand Ducal Court announced their separation on 18 January 2017, with their divorce finalised on 4 April 2019.

Work

Prince Louis currently lives in Paris and works as a directional consultant at Laurent Meeschaert Consueil, helping people to learn to know themselves, find their strengths and weaknesses, and how to make the most of them, especially with conflict resolution.

He plans to offer these consulting services to individuals and companies.

Prince Louis was diagnosed with dyslexia when he was 10 years old, so he wants to help others. He also trained with Beatrice Saugegeot, a leading expert in this field.

Interests

Prince Louis enjoys playing sport, including alpine skiing, snowboarding, mountain climbing, horse riding, shooting and scuba diving.

He also a keen pilot.
