The first Avent Sunday in Sweden, four weeks before Christmas, marks the countdown to Christmas Day, with the lighting of the first candle.

Each Sunday until Christmas, a candle is lit in the Advent candlestick, until all four are alight.

Many Swedes enjoy On the first Sunday in Advent, many Swedes also enjoy glögg (a hot, spicy mulled wine with blanched almonds and raisins) with pepparkakor (gingerbread biscuits).

Before Sunday, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar had tied wreaths as part of the decorations during Advent and Christmas at Haga Palace.
