King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine on Friday, 15 January 2021.

The Royal Couple had the injection at their home at Stenhammar after following medical advice, seeing they are both over 70 and at high risk of serious illness.

King Carl Gustaf made the following statement:

‘The great vaccination against COVID-19 is now underway around our country. It is my hope that everyone who has the opportunity to be vaccinated in these coming months chooses to do so, so that together and as soon as possible, we can get through this difficult time.’
