What is Pentecost?

Pentecost is a holy day that commemorates the coming of the Holy Spirit 40 days after the Crucifixion, Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus Christ, which marks the beginning of the Christian church’s mission to the world.

According to the Bible, Jesus told his disciples the Holy Spirit would come after him. See John 14-16-18.

This promise was fulfilled after Jesus ascended into heaven when the Apostle Peter and the Early Church were in Jerusalem for Pentecost, according to Acts 2:1-4.

Originally Pentecost was a Jewish holiday held 50 days after Passover.
