The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall paid a visit to flood victims in Yalding in Kent on Wednesday, 19 March 2014, to thank emergency services personnel, and to offer support.

Yalding was one of the first areas of the UK to be affected by floods when the River Medway burst its banks on Christmas Eve.

Their Royal Highnesses also visited a teapot museum, Teapot Island, so they could witness first-hand the terrible flood damage to residents and businesses. Teapot Island had been under three feet (approximately one metre) of floodwater.

The Prince wanted to see the devastation first-hand, and the Duchess bought a camel teapot as a souvenir.

The post office was also flooded as Tim Chapman said the money got wet and the computers were destroyed. Tim and his wife Jan were rescued from an upstairs window of their home next door.

The post office was open two weeks later.

One beekeeper lost 16 hives which were swept away.

The Prince and Duchess visited the former home of author Rudyard Kipling, famous for his novel, The Jungle Book, at Burwash. The property now belongs to the National Trust and the rooms remain the same as Kipling left them.
