A service was held at the Royal Chapel on 17 January 2016 at 11.00 am to celebrate King Harald V and Queen Sonja’s Silver Jubilee.

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden joined King Harald and Queen Sonja, and members of the Royal Family to celebrate their 25th Anniversary. They were wearing the King Harald V anniversary medal 1991-2016.


Government officials and family friends also attended the service.


King Harald and Queen Sonja later met with well-wishers in the Palace Square.
They also also thanked the man government officials, the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committees, the Confederation of Sports and several volunteers for organising a fantastic event.

Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit and their children later joined in some of the winter activities in the Palace Square, including skiing and the ice slide.
Queen Sonja also donned her cross-country skis to test the ski trails in the park with the Crown Prince and Crown Princess.
The King Harald V anniversary medal
The King Harald V anniversary medal (Kong Harald Vs jubileumsmedalje 1991–2016) was issued on 17 January 2016 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of his accession.
The medal was awarded to members of the royal family, members of the royal court, the Kings Military Staff, other officials and visiting foreign guests.
