Queen Máxima of the Netherlands has cancelled her visit to Tanzania from 6 to 7 November 2018 due to illness.

The Royal House of the Netherlands announced Queen Máxima’s doctor has recommended rest due to a possible intestinal infection.

Further tests will be carried out to confirm this diagnosis.

Queen Máxima was due to visit Tanzania in her role as the United Nation’s Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development.

She attended the United Nations General Assembly in New York, USA, from 24 to 26 September, where she handed her 2018 Annual Report on financial inclusion to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

Queen Máxima was appointed UN Special Advocate in 2009 and advises on universal access to financial services worldwide, mainly focusing on the economic and social development of low-income groups and small and medium-sized businesses. She has been the Honorary Patron of the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) since 2011.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima visited the United Kingdom and stayed at Buckingham Palace, as Queen Elizabeth II’s guests, from 23 to 24 October 2018.

They also met with British Prime Minister Theresa May at 10 Downing Street and visited the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior at Westminister Abbey.

King Willem-Alexander also addressed both Houses of Parliament at the Palace of Westminster on Tuesday, 23 October 2018.
