Ten years ago, Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling announced their engagement on 24 February 2009 at the Royal Palace in Stockholm.
The announcement was made after King Carl XVI Gustaf gave his consent to the marriage after obtaining approval from the government, according to the Constitution.
The media were invited to meet the Crown Princess and Daniel Westling on Princess Sibylla’s floor in the Royal Palace for a photo opportunity and ask a few questions.
They were married amidst much pomp and pageantry on Saturday, 19 June 2010 at Stockholm Cathedral (Storkyrkan), followed by a carriage procession through the city.
It was said to be the biggest royal wedding since Prince CHarles married Lady Diana Spencer in 1981, with visiting royalty from Belgium, Denmark, Japan, Jordan, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway and, Spain, among the guests.
The Earl and Countess of Wessex represented Queen Elizabeth II.
The groom was granted the title, Prince Daniel, Duke of Västergötland.
Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel have two children: Princess Estelle, aged 7, and Prince Oscar, aged 2.
