Forty-nine people were killed and at least 20 injured when an Australian extremist live-streamed the terror attack at two mosques, after posting anti-immigrant sentiments on social media.

Her Excellency the Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy
Governor-General of New Zealand
Government House,

I was saddened by the news about the tragic loss or so many lives at the two mosques in Christchurch.

I extend my sincere condolences to you and to the families of the victims and my sympathy to those otherwise affected and to the people of New Zealand at this difficult time.
