Queen Elizabeth has sent a message of condolence to the Governor-General of Canada Julie Payette on Saturday, 10 January 2020, following the loss of lives aboard the Ukrainian Airlines aircraft.
According to BBC News, all 176 passengers and crew, including 57 Canadian citizens, were killed when Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752 was ‘unintentionally’ shot down shortly after taking off from Tehran on Wednesday, 8 January.
The plane had departed on its flight to the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, and 138 passengers had a connecting flight to Toronto in Canada.
Philip and I have been deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life following the crash of the Ukrainian Airlines aircraft in Iran.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Canada, which has suffered such a devastating loss.
I extend my deepest condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of all those Canadians, and indeed other nationalities, who died, and to the many others who have been affected by this terrible event.
