Celebrations for Queen Margrethe’s birthday were cancelled in March due to the coronavirus pandemic in Denmark.

Every year, Queen Margrethe receives flowers from well-wishers both near and far on her birthday.

However, this year, Queen Margrethe is asking people to send a bouquet to one of the many older citizens instead, especially someone who is going through a difficult time right now.

According to the Royal Danish House, another tradition has changed this year as well-wishers would arrive at the Det Gule Palæ (The Yellow Palace), which is next door to Amalienborg, to write congratulatory messages in a register.

However, from Tuesday, 14 April, a contributions register will be set up on the Royal Daish House’s official website — www.kongehuset.dk — where well-wishers can send their best wishes or congratulations to Queen Margrethe.
