The Royal Court has said Crown Prince Haakon will act as Regent as King Harald will remain on sick leave until Sunday, 4 October 2020.

The Rikshospitalet will continue doing more tests in the meantime.

King Harald was taken to hospital by ambulance during the early hours on Friday, 25 September, for shortness of breath.

Reports say Crown Prince Haakon, accompanied by Queen Sonja, will be officially opening the 165th Storting (Parliament) on Thursday, 2 October, at 1.00 pm — the first time since 1990, when the then Crown Prince Harald stood in for his ailing father, King Olav V.

This is the first time when the Storting will be opened by someone other than the monarch in the past 30 years.
