Prince Carl Philip of Sweden celebrates his 42nd birthday on Thursday, 13 May 2021.
King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia’s second child and only son, Carl Philip Edmund Bertil, Duke of Värmland, was born in 1979 at the Royal Palace in Stockholm.
He was baptised in the Palace Chapel on 31 August 1979, with Prince Bertil, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, Princess Birgitta and Prince Leopold of Bavaria as godparents.
For seven months, Prince Carl Philip was the heir-apparent for seven months until 1 January 1980 when the laws of succession changed to allow the first-born child to succeed to the Swedish throne.
At the moment, he is now fourth in the line of succession, following his older sister Crown Princess Victoria and her two children, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar.
Prince Carl Philip married Sofia Hellqvist at the Royal Chapel at the Royal Palace in Stockhom on Saturday, 13 June 2015.
They have three sons, Prince Alexander (born 19 April 2016) and Prince Gabriel (born 31 August 2017) and Prince Julian (born 26 March 2021).
