King Carl Gustaf, aged 76, followed his doctor’s advice to undertake the procedure using laparoscopic or keyhole surgery on Monday, 20 February 2023.

The statement said King Carl Gustaf is ‘in good health’ and will carry out official engagements before he is admitted to hospital.

Following surgery, King Carl Gustaf will be convalescing until Friday, 3 March.

Planned official engagements during this period will be postponed until later this year.

King Carl Gustaf is also celebrating his Golden Jubilee in 2023 since his accession in 1973.

However, King Carl Gustaf isn’t the only monarch who will be admitted to a hospital for an operation. Queen Margrethe II of Denmark will be undergoing back surgery on Wednesday, 22 February.
