The Reserve Bank of Australia released the design artwork of the new Five-dollar note on Tuesday, 12 April 2016 to prepare Australians for a smooth introduction.
The new design is still the same-sized purple banknote with the Queen on the front, and the Federal Parliament House on the reserve, for easy recognition and to minimise disruption for business.

However, the Queen appears less amused than on the current five-dollar note.
The new tactile feature will help vision impaired people to tell the difference between banknote denominations.
The bright yellow Prickly Moses Wattle and the Eastern Spinebill have been added in a top-to-bottom window as a security measure to prevent counterfeiting.

Other bank notes will feature different Australian Wattle species and a native bird.
The new banknotes will go into circulation from 1 September.
The current five-dollar notes will remain in circulation, as the new ones are gradually issued.
However, not everyone is happy with the new look.
One comment about the Queen’s portrait on the new note, comparing it to the old one.
Others were less complimentary.
This one from New Zealand.
