Kensington Palace has announced the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, soon after their arrival in Sydney earlier today, are expecting their first baby.

The baby will due in Spring 2019, between March to May, and will be seventh in the line of succession to the British throne.

The Duke and Duchess arrived at Sydney Kingsford-Smith International Airport earlier that day and taken to Admiralty House where they stay as guests of the Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove and Lady Cosgrove.

Harry and Meghan began their tour on Tuesday, 16 October, meeting with representatives from all countries participating in the Invictus Games from 20 to 27 October, visiting Taronga Zoo with NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian, see a rehearsal of Spirit 2018 at the Opera House and meet members of the public.

Sir Peter and Lady Cosgrove will host a Reception for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at Admiralty House that evening.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison posted his congratulations to the royal couple on Twitter: ‘What fantastic news! Australia is thrilled for you both. Looking forward to sharing in the joy during your stay down under.


The Prime Minister said, on 10 September 2018, ‘I look forward to welcoming The Duke and Duchess of Sussex to Australia.’

The Duke and the Duchess are visiting Dubbo on Wednesday, 17 October, with a visit to the Royal Flying Doctor Service base, meeting with farmers battling the worst drought in living memory, before attending the Picnic In The Park to meet members of the public.
