The third in the line of succession to the Swedish throne celebrates his 3rd birthday on Saturday, 2 March 2019.
Prince Oscar, Duke of Skåne was born on 2 March 2016 at 8.28 pm at the Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel’s second child and only son.
The Swedish Royal Court has released a new photo of the little prince, sporting a cheeky grin, to mark this occasion.
Prince Oscar is in accordance with the 1979 succession order, which came into force on 1 January 1980, the third in the succession following his mother Crown Princess Victoria and older sister Princess Estelle.
The little prince weighed in at 3.655 kg (8 pounds) and he was 52 cm (22 inches) in length.
Gun salutes were fired in five cities across Sweden to mark the royal birth.
Proud grandfather King Carl XVI Gustaf announced the little prince’s names as Oscar Carl Olof and his title, Duke of Skåne and a Te Deum service was held in the palace’s Royal Chapel the following day.
Prince Oscar was christened on 27 May amidst pomp and ceremony in the Royal Chapel at Stockholm’s Royal Palace. His godparents are Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, his aunt Princess Madeleine, his mother’s cousin Oscar Magnuson and his father’s cousin, Hans Åström.
