The Belgian Monarchy has thanked wellwishers on social media as Prince Gabriel celebrates his 17th birthday on Thursday, 20 August 2020.

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde’s second child, Prince Gabriel Baudouin Charles Marie, was born in the Erasmus Hospital in Anderlect on 20 August 2003.

The Prince has a younger brother, Prince Emmanuel, and sister, Princess Eléonore.

He is currently second in the line of succession to the Belgian throne, following his older sister Princess Elisabeth Duchess of Brabant.

Prince Gabriel attended a Dutch-speaking secondary school in Brussels, learning French and English, but transferred to an International School in 2019.

The Prince is a keen sportsman as he enjoys playing football (soccer), hockey and tennis, cycling, swimming, skiing and sailing. He also enjoys playing the piano.

Reports claim Prince Gabriel gave up playing hockey to focus on his schoolwork.
