The Danish Royal Family attend a wreath-laying ceremony at Roskilde Cathedral to pay their respects to King Frederik IX who passed away 50 years ago on 14 January 1972.

Queen Margrethe, Princess Benedikte, the Crown Prince Couple and Prince Joachim and Princess Marie arrived at 12 noon to lay wreaths at the grave of King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid at Roskilde Cathedral.

The Chaplain-in-Ordinary read a text from the Bible and concluded with the Lord’s Prayer before a trumpeter from the Royal Danish Navy Band played ‘Denmark’s Last Post’.

Unfortunately, The Queen’s youngest sister Queen Anne Marie of Greece was unable to attend as her husband King Constantine II had tested positive for COVID-19 recently and was admitted to hospital on 8 January.
