A statement from the Swedish Royal Court has announced that Princess Madeline has given birth to a healthy daughter on Friday, 9 March 2018, at 12.41 am at Danderyd Hospital in Stockholm.
The Office of The Marshall of the Realm reports ‘both mother and child are in good health.’
The little princess is 50 cm (19.69 inches) in length and weighed in at 3464 grams (7 pounds 10 ounces).
Christopher O’Neill was present throughout the birth.
‘We are thrilled about the new addition to our family. Leonor and Nicolas are looking very much forward to meeting their new little sister,’ Mr O’Neill said.
At midday, 21-gun salutes were fired from Skeppsholmen battery in Stockholm and in the cities of Boden, Härnösand, Karlskrona and Gothenburg, to mark this special occasion.
The baby girl, who is yet to be named, is King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia’s 7th grandchild and is tenth in the line of succession to the Swedish throne.
King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia cut short their holiday in Switzerland to fly back to Stockholm to meet their new granddaughter.
Princess Madeleine and Mr O’Neill took their newborn daughter home later that day.
However, King Carl Gustaf will Council of State Meeting will be held at the Royal Palace on Monday, 12 March at 11.15 am where he will inform the government of the child’s name and title.
Following the Council of State Meeting, a thanksgiving service, the Te Deum, will be held in the Royal Chapel at 12.15 pm.
Parliamentary representatives, government officials and staff at the Royal Court will join the Royal Family to give thanks for the new royal baby’s arrival.
